I haven't posted in a while because there just simply haven't been any updates--at least not to my way of thinking! But now, it's time to start this up again.
Our family has chosen to live an abnormal life of living on a sailboat and exploring the world. Come along with us on our journey and let it inspire you to follow your own chosen road--not “only wish what [you] could be!”

Stepping into the boat mindset
It's interesting especially now with the Christmas season upon us to be thinking about living the boat. I look around all the Christmas decorations, including the trees and realize, "Oh, we won't be able to have that on the boat." We'll have our stockings, of course (my mom made all five of our stockings!), plus the Advent calendar (also made by my mom--have I mentioned she is incredibly crafty? I wish I had half her talent and patience)...

Chomping at the bit
I'm starting to feel antsy. There is so much still to be done before we can officially leave on our adventure--and I truly mean leave, as in bye-bye ordinary life, let's get to Mexico--but I'm finding myself more and more wishing that date of departure was coming up sooner. Part of that could be because I'm really excited to actually see our boat. I admit that I'm rather jealous that Joe has already seen the boat. Pictures simply don't satisfy!

We are now boat poor!
Well, Kyrie is officially ours after multiple delays with switching funds through accounts! We now can post some details and pictures for everyone who has asked. (Joe is really good at all the technical details and facts, so a lot of this is his post, although I (Kristen) have added a few other bits and pieces here and there. Have fun reading!)

What's next?
I've been hesitant to post anything since Kyrie isn't officially ours yet and I don't want to post pictures until she is. However, there is so much keeping us busy in the meantime, so there is plenty I could talk about. The house is coming along, albeit slowly. Thankfully, Joe found a carpenter/laborer whose workload has slowed down considerably and is looking for work. Working together, the two of them should be able to get the addition done in the next month or so. That fits in our timeline rather nicely.
What is our timeline? Maybe it's time to reveal our grand plan, as it stands right now.

:) We found her!
What did I say the title of the next post would hopefully be? I am tickled to announce that we found Kyrie, and, even better, she is exactly what we wanted.

... and continues...
This blog seems to be in a feast or famine cycle, and apparently it's feasting time! Life is truly weird at times. Another boat has appeared on the horizon and has completely captured our attention. She's huge, built of steel and really pretty! No, her name isn't Supergirl or Wonder Woman, in case anyone was wondering...

The hunt continues
When we first started searching for our big boat, I don't think I had any idea just how difficult it was going to be to find one that would work. Rather naive, I suppose, or maybe I just didn't let myself think about all the difficulties we would come across in our search.

In the meantime
It is official--we are currently not boat owners... and it feels really odd. Joe and Levi used a friend's truck and towed Shiva on her trailer to Tok to meet up with her new owner. Thankfully, the trip was uneventful and the new owner was tickled to take possession. Joe and Levi enjoyed the trip as well, making a boys' weekend out of it.
But now, there's a big empty space.

What's in a name?
So this blog went live yesterday and to no surprise, I found people asking about the name. Understandable, considering the boat we just said good-bye to is named Shiva! On a side note, if I could, Joe and Levi left early this morning with Shiva in tow.

Beginning by saying goodbye?
It seems so strange that an adventure that involves cruising around on a sailboat begins with selling one, but that's the way this will start.
